Class-Wide Function-Related Intervention Teams
CW-FIT is a class-wide group contingency system that increases on-task behavior and decreases disruptions through positive reinforcement and clear expectations. Developed at the University of Kansas, it's designed for general education classrooms from kindergarten through grade eight.
CW-FIT was developed by Dr. Howard Wills, Associate Research Professor at the Juniper Gardens Children's Project, University of Kansas. Dr. Wills also leads I-Connect, a companion self-monitoring tool for individual students. CW-FIT has been validated in dozens of peer-reviewed studies across school settings and grade levels.
The intervention works by organizing the classroom into teams. Students earn points for on-task behavior during teacher-directed instruction. Points are tracked visibly, and teams that meet their daily goal earn a brief preferred activity. The system is teacher-managed with no specialist required after initial training.
