The Early Communication Indicator (ECI) is a play-based general outcome measure that tracks expressive communication growth in infants and toddlers during a short, naturalistic play interaction. Teams use it to monitor progress over time and to inform decisions about support. Administration training is available for early-childhood staff.
The ECI is a validated Individual Growth and Development Indicator developed at the Juniper Gardens Children's Project for birth-to-three progress monitoring.
