PC-TALK is built around eight specific strategies adults use to promote communication in early childhood settings. Each strategy is research-grounded, observable, and teachable in a single training day. When adults change how they respond and prompt, children's language output increases measurably within weeks.
- Eight strategies cover the full range of adult-child communication interactions.
- Each strategy is observable and tied to measurable child outcomes.
- Training takes one day; application happens during everyday classroom routines.
- The strategies work in both classroom and home settings with any communication partner.
Why eight strategies
Language development in early childhood is primarily social — it happens in interactions, not in isolation. The eight PC-TALK strategies target the adult side of that interaction: how caregivers and teachers respond, expand, and prompt. Research consistently shows that when adults apply these strategies, children's number of communication acts, vocabulary, and sentence length all increase. The strategies are not abstract principles. Each one has a name, a description, and examples that teachers recognize from their own classrooms.
